Fay (Fani) Mangos

August 21, 1956 - October 9, 2010

Crash Date: October 9, 2010

My mother Fay was a vibrant woman who loved life, and lived it to its fullest each and every day. She was a shinning example of what it meant to live a life filled with passion, compassion, empathy and unselfish generosity, a generosity she shared with her family, friends and community.
My mother was lovingly referred to as “The Huggy”. It was a nickname I had given her. She was a hugger. Whenever a family member, friend or customer came through the door, at home or at the restaurant, she was always hugging them. Even if she had just finished giving you a piece of her mind and was steaming mad, she would hug you. She could never stay mad at anyone for long. When I had first given her this nickname I had hoped that it would get on her nerves and get her to stop hugging me so much when I worked at the restaurant. It was hard to get stuff done when all she wanted to do was hug you. But my mother quickly turned the tables on me; she embraced the nickname and began hugging me even more. Family, friends, and even customers started to refer to her as “The Huggy”, and she loved it. How I would give anything to have her hug me even one more time.

I met Fay when I moved across from her Caledon restaurant. She was everything Elizabeth said she was - welcoming, funny, quick, kind and - to boot - she was one of the smartest people I had ever met. She read and knew about things that astonished me. Fay’s warmth and sense of humour extended to everyone. I knew I always had an advocate in her. When the family restaurant moved, I felt a huge sense of loss, but it was nothing compared to the grief I felt when Fay’s life was taken so unexpectedly almost 10 years ago. I see so much of Fay in her daughter, Elizabeth, and I know Fay would be delighted to know that our friendship has not only been maintained, but blossomed during this past decade. Fay will always have a special place in my heart.

Fay is sadly missed by my family. Her smile lit up a room, her laugh lifted your spirits and her compassion for people was amazing. I loved that woman dearly. RIP Fay ♡♡
