Emily Stewart
Crash Date: June 16, 2007
Our daughter, Emily, was not expected to live either at the scene nor once airlifted to McMaster Children’s Hospital. She had several broken bones, cuts, and a catastrophic brain injury. The day after Doug’s funeral, I was told that with her type and severity of injury, I should have little hope for any chance of recovery. Through the love, prayers and wishes of so many, from her own very special angel above, and by her own huge determination, courage and strength, Emily has made a tremendous recovery and returned to school the same year. We will forever all be so thankful to our dear Doug/Dad, to her many dedicated and kind caregivers, and to our friends and family for giving us back our magnificent Emily. You are a champion and an inspiration, and we love you dearly.
Emily has now graduated with an Honours B.A. from McMaster University in Social Psychology. She was spending this year (pre-pandemic) volunteering full-time with both adults and children with special and challenging needs at 5 different centres. She is hoping to go to graduate school to realize her professional goal of giving back and helpings others.
